Highlights: Neuried Maypole Association wants a clubhouse. The club currently has 127 members, but there is only space for eight to a maximum of ten people in the trailer. A double container with a small kitchenette, a toilet with a washbasin, a barbecue area and a storage area for a maypole is conceivable. The capital required for the project is around 40,000 euros. Since there will be no maypole set up in Neuried this year, the club is foregoing a May festival.

The Neuried Maypole Association now has 127 members.

However, there is only a small trailer available for regulars' tables and meetings.

That should change.

Neuried

– The Neuried Maypole Association would like to have its own clubhouse.

The previous home, the construction trailer in the center of the town on the so-called Ratschplatz, has had its day, explained chairman Matthias Schilcher on Friday evening at the general meeting in the fire station.

The association has restored the trailer twice since it had already been on construction sites for three decades.

The club currently has 127 members, but there is only space for eight to a maximum of ten people in the trailer.

Following a suggestion from the municipality, the club is already considering a potential location for the clubhouse: on the grounds of the Neuried sports park in the immediate vicinity of the EC Neuried.

“We agreed that would be a great solution,” said Schilcher.

A double container with a small kitchenette, a toilet with a washbasin, a barbecue area and a storage area for a maypole is conceivable.

In any case, it should not be a permanent building.

Whether the project can be implemented is currently being examined, reported Schilcher.

“We would be happy if there was a quick solution.”

Estimated at 40,000 euros

According to treasurer Oliver Maidl, the capital required for the project is around 40,000 euros.

The association has already collected 7,106 euros through a call for donations.

To this end, 4,500 letters were distributed throughout the municipality last year.

For the remaining 32,000 euros, the association has submitted an application to a state agency for village development, said Maidl.

However, it remains to be seen how high the funding will ultimately be.

In order to acquire further donations, the association wants to specifically approach companies and companies.

Financially, the Maypole Association is in a solid position.

The reserve is 20,000 euros, there are 8,245 euros in the checking account and 1,279 euros in the cash register (as of December 31, 2023).

Nevertheless, 2023 was a difficult year, Maidl stated.

“It rained for us at the May festival.” Nevertheless, the year ended with a profit of around 5,000 euros - also because membership fees were collected for two years and the number of members increased.

Since the last meeting in July of the previous year, 18 new members have been added, reported second chairman Maximilian Mühlbauer.

The Maypole Association always needs active support when setting up the maypoles.

In recent years, Stefan Lechner has helped ten times and Andreas Ries eight times, for which they received gold-red and gold-blue awards.

During the meeting, Neuried's deputy mayors Markus Crhak and Andreas Pohl were also honored with silver (four active participations), while mayors Harald Zipfel, Thomas Weiß, Alexander Schäfer and Klaus Kretz received bronze (at least two participations).

Since there will be no maypole set up in Neuried this year, the club is foregoing a May festival.

He just wants to raise the flag, give a quick toast and then go on a bike ride.

There is still an annual program - and next year there will be a week of celebrations for the Maypole in 2025.
