The Oberland was groaning under the holiday and excursion traffic on Saturday.
There was traffic chaos in the Loisach and Isar valleys.
Mittenwald in particular was affected.
Block handling was necessary for hours in the Oberaus tunnel.
Region - “Traffic chaos in the Loisach and Isar valleys”: This is what the Garmisch police reported from the region after Saturday (February 10th).
There were massive traffic disruptions throughout Saturday in the area from the southern end of the A95 motorway near Eschenlohe to the Scharnitz border crossing and beyond.
The reason was the overload of the road network.
Particularly in the Mittenwald area, holidaymakers and day-trippers crowded through the town's streets, vehicle after vehicle.
The road users tried to avoid the kilometer-long traffic jam on the B2 in the city.
In the Oberau tunnel, block handling was necessary for around five hours, sometimes in both directions, due to the overload.
According to the police, the massive volume of traffic in the region may have been increased by a blockade campaign by climate activists in Tyrol on the Fernpass road.
Certainly some travelers would have tried to avoid the traffic jam on the Austrian B179 this way.
