(see related) Ostuni museum president LucaDell'Atti on Monday apologized for posting a photograph of Premier Giorgia Meloni upside down amid strong criticism from representatives of her Brothers of Italy (FdI) party and calls for him to step down.
"To the Honorable Giorgia Meloni I offer my human, sincere and heartfelt apologies for the image in very bad taste that Iimproperly posted on my Instagram stories," said Dell'Atti in a statement.
"I did it on the impetus of criticism ... of the positions taken by the prime minister in relation to the Day of Remembrance" of the Foibe massacres, he added.
"However, an Instagram story has nothing to do with the management of the Ostuni museum," continued Dell'Atti.
"I recognize the total inappropriateness of the publication, which in fact I have removed, but I reject all accusations regarding the 'democratic feasibility' of the museum management, as some have said," he added.
