The emergency services were called upon this Monday, February 12 to come to the aid of two walkers, who found themselves trapped by the tide on the beach of Sainte-Cécile in Pas-de-Calais, as reported by our colleagues from the
voice of the North
.
The firefighters, who arrived on the scene quickly, found that one of the victims had managed to return to the coast under his own power.
This person, aged 77, in a state of shock, was transported to the Duchenne hospital center in Boulogne for in-depth examinations.
A deceased walker
The other woman, aged 67, found herself stuck on a tarpaulin surrounded by the sea. She was initially rescued by a witness who jumped into the water to bring her back to the sand, assisted by gendarmerie reservists, tells La
Voix du Nord
.
One of the reservists began the first actions while waiting for help to arrive.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts made by the firefighters and a team from the SMUR of Rang-du-Fliers, the victim died around 12:45 p.m.
This tragic incident comes after a similar incident on January 15, where a 69-year-old man died and his wife was hospitalized for hypothermia after also becoming trapped by the tide on Sainte-Cécile beach.
The tidal coefficients being very high since Saturday on the Côte d'Opale, even exceeding 100 this Monday, the authorities are warning of the dangers for walkers and calling for the greatest caution.
