The high schools in the region have worked with the ministerial representative to develop solutions to deal with the space problem.

Among other things, there should be a central allocation process.

District - The region's high schools are popular, and the transfer rates are above average compared to the rest of Bavaria.

In addition, for the 2025/26 school year there will be a 13th grade for the first time since the G9 was reintroduced.

Because of the lack of space in the schools, those responsible got together and developed solutions - for the time until the new high school in Herrsching eases the situation somewhat.

“Despite the limited spatial capacity, an attractive and adequate school place will be available for every suitable child from the western district,” writes district office spokesman Stefan Diebl in a recent statement.

A “consensus” was developed by the ministerial representative responsible for the Starnberg district, Brigitte Grams-Loibl, representatives of the district and the head teachers of the high schools in Gilching, Germering, Tutzing and Starnberg.

An essential content: For all students who want to attend the new Herrsching high school, there are precursor classes at the Max-Born-Gymnasium in Germering and at the Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium in Germering-Unterpfaffenhofen.

Anyone who does not attend such classes can only be admitted to the school on Ammersee, which is expected to open in September 2025, “only if there is free capacity in the classes that are intended for a transfer to Herrsching”.

Agreements for fifth grade enrollment in the 2024/25 school year

The actors mentioned also agreed on the procedure for enrolling students in the upcoming fifth grades for the 2024/25 school year.

Children from Herrsching and Seefeld are assigned to the two Germering high schools.

If an allocation is made, the children's travel costs will be covered until the Herrsching high school opens.

If the capacity at one of the schools is exceeded, the central allocation process coordinated by the ministerial representative will take effect from Wednesday, May 8th, explains Diebl.

For students who live within walking distance of the bus stops in Breitbrunn and who can reach the Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium (CPG) in Gilching directly with bus line 928V, admission to the CPG is possible up to the capacity limits.

However, friendships with classmates who live elsewhere and who are assigned to the Carl-Spitzweg-Gymnasium or the Max-Born-Gymnasium cannot be taken into account.

Children from Weßling, Wörthsee and Inning will be admitted to the CPG until capacity limits are reached.

If these limits are exceeded, “a solution will be developed and the legal guardians of the affected students will be informed promptly,” the message states in a relatively vague manner.

An exception is the registration of siblings: If one is already attending a high school, the younger siblings will also be admitted there.

The connection of the communities to public transport was taken into account in the agreements, writes Diebl.

“The accessibility of the respective schools is guaranteed.”

Enrollment days at all five high schools mentioned are Monday, May 6th and Tuesday, May 7th.

Details can be found on the school websites.

After enrollment, ministerial representative Grams-Loibl records the current admission capacities of the high schools and publishes them on the respective websites on May 8th.

“Within these capacities, there is freedom in choosing a high school,” writes authority spokesman Diebl.

On the same day, the central allocation process begins for those students who did not receive a place at the desired high school.
