Verdun?

In the collective imagination, the name of the town north of the Meuse naturally remains linked to the Poilus and the horror of the battlefields of 1914-1918.

But the Second World War also brought its share of suffering.

Sensitive to the essential work of remembrance, the municipality is organizing an original “participatory exhibition” approach to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the city, August 31, 1944, as well as the 40th anniversary of the handshake between Francis Mitterrand and Helmut Kohl, September 22, 1984, in front of the necropolis.

The population is invited to contribute to the content of this exhibition at the Buvignier chapel.

The town hall has launched a call for a collection of objects, documents, photos, posters.

Objective: to recall what daily life was like under the Nazi occupation for four years.

The exhibition will be scheduled in parallel with commemorations and ceremonies.

Samuel Hazard, the mayor, hopes for the participation of the Patrouille de France.

“I will provide documents,” testifies Camille Tridon.

Owner of the Musée sur les Poilus in Verdun, this restorer defends the initiative.

He plans to temporarily make available a batch of objects saluting the memory of Ginette Pothier-Volant who structured a resistance network before being deported.

“This collection is a positive step for the work of memory for future generations,” says Mr. Tridon.

The role of collectors is essential for the preservation of what makes up our heritage and our history.
