A heated discussion ensued over the rum-soaked donut from a Regensburg bakery.

The master baker himself explains why it is now available again.

And in the bakery itself, master baker Ludwig Schifferl noted: “Even at the beginning of the donut season, the demand for the alcohol-containing donut fell by 20%.” So with a heavy heart, he removed it from the range: “You just have to adapt to society. “

Traditional rum donuts for 40 years: “favorite donuts” of the master baker

The Rumkrapfen is actually a “very old traditional pastry” and is considered a specialty of the Schifferl bakery.

“We've had it for 40 years, my grandfather baked it,” says Schifferl in an interview with our editorial team.

After baking, the dough is soaked in rum and filled with apricot jam.

The creation is even one of his “favorite doughnuts,” says Ludwig Schifferl: “I've been eating it since I was a child.” As a customer-oriented company, he wanted to adapt to the wishes of his customers and that's why he decided to take the step.

The rum donut is available again at the Regensburg bakery Schifferl.

But Schifferl has kept the comeback of his favorite donut open.

And just a week later the time had come: the rum donut was back in the counter.

With the information “Rum donuts are available again in ALL our branches!”, the bakery is once again causing a stir at the weekend.

Baker Florian Perkmann is known for his particularly exotic donut creations.

This year, the Miesbacher is relying on a Camambert doughnut.

After comeback: high demand for rum donuts

Master baker Ludwig Schifferl explains to us why he decided to bring back his favorite donut: “We simply received so much feedback that many people haven't tried the donut yet and would like to do so.

And the regular customers love it anyway.” Thanks to the attention generated by the debate on social media, demand is currently very high again.

“The donut is simply part of the carnival season and if the majority of people want it, then they will have it again,” says Ludwig Schifferl.
