The information campaign by the de Alwis hotelier family has started, and a number of personalities from the market town are positioning themselves for the new Schlierseer Hof building

Schliersee – .

Support also comes from the town hall and the municipal company Regional Development Oberland (REO).

They all have one thing in common: the hope of revitalizing the entire place.

Three-minute supporter video

After the citizens' initiative (BI), the de Alwis family also started cleaning doors in Schliersee.

However, this is not with a signature list and pen, but with a camera and microphone.

The result can recently be seen as a three and a half minute video on Facebook: a compilation of verbal contributions in which well-known personalities from the community and beyond express - and justify - their support for the new Schlierseer Hof building in the dimension presented.

As reported, the hoteliers stayed out of the heated debate about their project for a long time, at least since the BI began collecting signatures.

Now that the referendum has been virtually finalized with the BI submitting the list to the town hall, the de Alwis family's information campaign is also starting.

Even before the three big events from the end of February to the beginning of March in her house, junior boss Marcel de Alwis invited the young Schlierseers between 16 and 35 years old to a white sausage breakfast with a project presentation.

The presentation last week in the TSV Schliersee sports center was the initiative of the CSU local association.

In order to shed light on the importance of the hotel project for the whole of Schliersee and even beyond, the tourism director of the municipal company Regional Development Oberland (REO), Harald Gmeiner, was invited to give a lecture.

Tourism boss briefly presents the project to the IHK committee

Gmeiner presented a few excerpts from this directly beforehand at the meeting of the IHK regional committee at the Dinzler coffee roastery in Irschenberg.

As in the video on Facebook, he described the realization of the hotel project as “extremely important”.

There is a structural change in the region, which means that private room rentals are decreasing.

There is an even greater need for more high-quality hotel beds in Schliersee.

Gmeiner also presented figures to the IHK.

From 2017 to 2023, hotel overnight stays in Schliersee fell from almost 123,000 to 107,000.

With the closure of the Hotel Reiter, a further 80 beds were lost.

Project would be a “lead investment”

REO board chairman and IHK regional committee chairman Alexander Schmid made it clear that no significant hotel construction had taken place in Schliersee since the 1970s.

If the project at Schlierseer Hof fails now, there is a risk of further standstill for the next one or two decades.

It is very gratifying when a local family wants to invest so much money these days, because such a “lead investment” brings with it others in the area.

“Something has to happen in Schliersee,” emphasized Schmid.

IHK office manager Jens Wucherpfennig added as a matter of form that the regional committee would first need to weigh up and make a decision in order to receive official support, but also said that “we fundamentally welcome investments in tourism at the location”.

More supporters

The respondents in the support video also highlight the positive consequences for the entire town.

This also includes the head of the community, Mayor Franz Schnitzenbaumer.

For him, the new building of the Schlierseer Hof would be “an initial spark for the development of Schliersee”.

A revival through a hotel “can only be positive” for the observable vacancies in retail.

Margot Niedermüller from the Alte Wurzhütte on Spitzingsee is also hoping for “a large number of guests in town from which we can all benefit all year round”.

Because, as Matthias Gerken from Ratskeller puts it, the guests would not only “sit in the hotel the whole time”, but would also explore the area and liven up the shops in the process.

Retiree Margot Wolf sees the project as an opportunity for the young generation to advance Schliersee.

Very good guests would come, new shops would open - which would also be urgently needed for the older citizens, emphasizes the operator of the Seehäusl guesthouse: "We can hardly buy anything here anymore."

Some of the points mentioned cast doubt on the opponents (we reported).

They also want to start their information offensive soon.
