The “Schäferwirt” Hermann Kögl from Schwabbruck died after a long illness.
He would have been 69 years old next Valentine's Day.
Schwabbruck – He was known as the “Schäferwirt” in his home town of Schwabbruck and beyond.
On the night of February 7th, Hermann Kögl fell asleep after a long ordeal due to illness.
“He reached his final goal in peace and dignity,” says son Stephan Kögl.
“He was able to let go and leave in peace.
Knowing that his ten grandchildren and the business are doing well.”
Hermann Kögl was born on February 14, 1955 - next Valentine's Day he would have been 69 years old.
His parents ran a small inn - the Schäferwirt - and a small farm.
Kögl grew up with both and initially devoted himself to the latter with full creative energy as an adult.
“His heart was always in agriculture,” says his son.
Hermann Kögl started with the “new Schäferwirt” in Schwabbruck in 1991
But at the end of the 1980s a decision had to be made.
Continuing both was not an option; one would have had to expand either in agriculture or in the catering industry.
And there have been indications that the future lies more in the catering industry.
So Kögl gave up his small dairy farm and started with the “new Schäferwirt” in 1991.
In place of the stable, a hall was built with enough space for parties.
“It was a very courageous decision,” says Stephan Kögl.
But, as it turns out, the right one.

From then on, Hermann Kögl, together with his mother, his wife Amalie and his children, dedicated themselves with passion to gastronomy.
Over the past ten years, he gradually withdrew and, after the death of his wife, with whom he had four children, in 2022, he handed over to his son.
Also active in leading positions in numerous clubs
Hermann Kögl's fame in the region is not only due to his life's work and legacy, the “Schäferwirt”.
He was also active in numerous clubs and took on leading positions.
He co-founded the Schwabbruck Rural Youth and brought the theater group – another passion of his – into being.
For 35 years he was chairman of the Schongau Forest Farmers' Association.
He was also involved, among other things, with the landlords' association, the farmers' association and the hunting association.
Even though he gave up the dairy farm, he remained connected to agriculture and continued forestry.
A memorial service for Hermann Kögl and the burial are expected to take place on Friday, February 16th.
Afterwards, a get-together at the “Schäferwirt” is planned, with “the door open for everyone who knew him and wants to say goodbye,” explains Stephan Kögl.
However, to make it easier to plan, he asks for a short note about participation.
