The canal work on the Tutzinger town thoroughfare is almost complete.

The costs for the wastewater association alone are 10.2 million euros.

Tutzing – The sewer work as part of the renovation of Tutzinger Hauptstrasse is almost completed.

“It's not getting any more expensive, we're almost done,” project manager Christoph Knobloch reported to the Starnberger See wastewater association committee at its most recent meeting.

After all, the costs for the wastewater association alone are 10.2 million euros.

“And that was just the canal construction,” said Knobloch, underlining the dimensions of this town thoroughfare renovation, which the Weilheim State Building Authority is taking the lead in carrying out together with the association and the municipality.

“In addition, there is the road construction, the sidewalks and the lighting.” Work on the town thoroughfare will continue from May, but without the sewage association, which has completed its part in this mammoth renovation.

Work was carried out in closed and open construction methods - and in involuntary open construction methods: As is well known, a very deep hole unexpectedly opened up in the main street in June last year.

The cause was a layer of sand that had dissolved in conjunction with water, as Knobloch said in the summer.

A complete closure of the road was unavoidable, he now defended the approach at the time and showed photos of the construction site with the hole at the meeting.

“You can see that there is no space for a car here.” Despite this unforeseeable event, the estimated costs would not have increased.

Road drainage is still pending

In 2023 alone, the sewage association in Tutzing cleaned, inspected and renovated 1,280 square meters of wastewater sewers and 520 square meters of stormwater sewers without trenches.

In construction phase 2, the town center, work was carried out using the open construction method - in anticipation of the work by the State Building Authority on the road and the municipality on the water pipes, which will begin in May.

What is still outstanding is the street drainage for the town center.

“Due to the construction process, it will take place with the road construction,” said Knobloch and had important information for the association councils: “Road drainage has been returned to the responsibility of the State Building Authority as the road construction authority.” In addition to the investment costs, this authority also bears the maintenance costs for the drainage.

The distribution of costs and the maintenance of the canals were an important issue in the run-up to the discussions on whether the road renovation would be carried out or not.

A decision had not been made and, according to Knobloch, is still pending: “Discussions are ongoing in the background with the state building authority and the municipality about the costs,” said the project manager.

Costs have increased significantly

Not only have the costs for work using open construction methods increased massively since the start of the renovation of the local thoroughfare - at the association committee meeting there was talk of 40 percent in the last three years - but, according to Knobloch, the disposal costs have also become very expensive.

More than half of the expected 10.2 million euros in costs have already been accounted for.

It is still unclear how high the association's participation in the interim storage facility is.

“Since the sewage association took over all the sewers, everything has become more expensive,” said the association chairman, Pöcking’s mayor Rainer Schnitzler.

Also the sewage charges, that is correct.

But that also means that the investment backlog in some communities will be resolved.

Schnitzler: “The wastewater association is cleaning up.”
