The partial repetition of the 2021 federal election in Berlin means that a mandate will subsequently go to the SPD politician Angela Hohmann from Celle.

The Federal Returning Officer announced this on Monday night.

Berlin/Hannover - Because of the low turnout in the partial repeat election, the Berlin parties lost four Bundestag mandates on Sunday, one of which went to the Lower Saxony.

Hohmann has been chairwoman of the SPD district council group in Celle since 2021.

According to a ruling by the Federal Constitutional Court, new elections were held in Berlin on Sunday in 455 of 2,256 electoral districts - a fifth - because there were many organizational problems and breakdowns during the 2021 election.
