During the Rio de Janeiro Carnival parades held this Sunday, the Academicos do Salgueiro samba school paid tribute to the indigenous tribe of the Yanomami, who are going through a humanitarian crisis.
The school also remembered indigenous expert Bruno Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips, murdered in 2022 while studying the situation of the tribe.
In recent years, a growing number of Yanomami have died from the flu, malaria and malnutrition that has occurred in their territory, isolated in the Amazon, after the arrival of illegal miners.
The situation led Lula da Silva's Government to declare a health emergency.
