The Minister Delegate in charge of Industry, and now Energy in the Attal government, places renewables at the heart of the debate.

The Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire devoted his first trip dedicated to energy to visiting a nuclear power plant in Gravelines (North).

For its Minister Delegate in charge of Industry, and now also Energy, Roland Lescure, it is a solar farm.

This Monday afternoon, he will go to an installation not far from Marcoussis (Essonne).

The opportunity to highlight the importance of the second pillar on which France wants to rebuild its energy independence: renewable energies.

The visit takes on a very symbolic character, while the renewables sector is concerned about the disappearance of any reference to a production volume - in absolute value or in percentage - in the bill for energy sovereignty, unveiled at the beginning of January by the Borne government.

The Attal government has failed to reassure.

The Renewable Energies Union (SER) expressed

“its immense disappointment”

after Gabriel Attal's general policy speech at the end of January.

“The directions vigorously defended from the podium of the National Assembly reflect a hackneyed vision of the energy system which maintains the double belief according to which the energy future of France is only electric and that nuclear power alone will be capable to respond to the very strong growth in our decarbonization needs

,” criticized the SER.

A law on energy sovereignty before the end of the year

Barely appointed to energy, Roland Lescure is giving new cold sweats to the sector.

“There will be a law, legislative provisions which will pass in the Assembly because I want it to be a public debate

,” assured the Minister Delegate for Industry and Energy on France 3 on Sunday.

The text, awaited for more than eighteen months now and which has taken various forms, could once again change its name, reports the Context information site.

The calendar also remains very vague.

Roland Lescure promises a law presented “

within the year

” but

“not necessarily in the first half”,

in order to

“take time for debate”

.

There is a general consensus on the place of renewables in the energy mix.

But in what form and for what part?

Wind power remains a subject of tension, solar panels are imported from China, biomass requires significant inputs of waste... But the advantage of all these means of production is their speed of deployment, whereas it is not necessary to expect new nuclear reactors before 2035, at best - excluding Flamanville 3. The latest EPR should be connected to the network this year.
