In January 2024,
only 331 combines, tractors and sprayers were registered
in the country.
According to the Agricultural Machinery Division of the Association of Automotive Dealers of the Argentine Republic (Acara), the number represents a
drop of 40.9 percent year-on-year
, since in January 2023 560 units had been patented.
If compared to last December, when 458 units were patented, the decrease reaches 27.7 percent.
With the end of the extreme drought and the arrival of El Niño accompanied by abundant rains last spring, hope grew of obtaining good harvests in the 2023/2024 campaign and, as a consequence, achieving greater sales of agricultural machinery.
However, the expectation was far from reality.
"January 2024 leaves
very poor numbers
, being
the lowest month in patented machinery since 2020
," they pointed out from Acara.
An Acara report indicates that 22 harvesters
were registered in January 2024
, 8.3 percent less than the 24 in December and
64.5 percent less than January 2023
, when 62 were patented.

In addition, in the first month of 2024, 289 tractors
were registered
, this means a decline of 29.3 percent in relation to the 409 units in December and
35.3 percent year-on-year
, taking into account that in January 2023 there had been scored 447 units.
On the other hand, there was a patent for
20 sprayers
in January, which represents a drop of 20 percent compared to the 25 units last December, and
60.8 percent compared to January 2023
when 51 units were registered.
"The
beginning of the year was very weak
in line with the third quarter of 2023, with declining numbers, however,
optimism in the sector for the post-harvest
is high and it is expected that, with good production and order in the economic variables, the year may have a recovery from the gross,
perhaps waiting for Expoagro
in March, as the turning point to see green numbers again," Acara expressed.
