Tim Walter is no longer the coach of the second division soccer team Hamburger SV.
His previous assistant Merlin Polzin will have the chance to supervise the team as boss, at least in the game at Hansa Rostock.
Hamburg - After separating from coach Tim Walter, HSV sports director Jonas Boldt is initially relying on previous assistant Merlin Polzin.
The 33-year-old will look after the third-place team in the 2nd Bundesliga on Saturday (1 p.m./Sky) at Hansa Rostock.
“He definitely gets the chance, and with full conviction,” Boldt said on Monday afternoon.
Polzin has helped shape a lot in recent years.
“Hence the belief that we have great coaching talent here.”
Boldt left it open whether Polzin was a permanent solution or whether another coach could be hired.
“We don’t want to commit to any time frame,” said the 42-year-old.
“Of course we will consider what could be medium and long-term solutions.
Merlin Polzin will definitely play a role in this.”
The young trainer took on the task with “shining eyes and a completely clear yes,” Boldt reported on his conversation with Polzin.
He said directly that he had an idea “how we should tackle things here now”.
Polzin was in charge of the first training session in the afternoon.
According to Boldt, the fact that he is just about to acquire his pro license, which is necessary for the Bundesliga, does not pose a problem with the regulations. dpa
