Woman opens fire at Lakewood Church

This Sunday afternoon, a woman entered the evangelical Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, and began shooting with a long gun.

Two off-duty police officers shot down the attacker, who was accompanied by a five-year-old child.

The woman was killed, while the child and another man were injured.

The congregation, led by well-known pastor Joel Osteen, is the third largest megachurch in the United States, according to the Hartford Institute for Religion Research, where around 45,000 people attend religious services weekly.

Pastor Osteen stated that the shooting could have been much worse if it had occurred during the 11:00 a.m. main service, which is usually the busiest time.

“We are devastated,” he said, adding that he would pray for the victims and their families.
