All oldie fans and boogie dancers can get their petticoats and pomade out of the closet, because there will be two great “Rockabilly” events in Peiting again.

Peiting - A concert evening on Saturday, March 2nd, in the Gasthof Zechenschenke in Peiting is basically the appetizer for a multi-day festival that is to take place in June around the Schloßberghalle.

Organizer Jürgen Schallhammer, who has been in the music scene for many years and drives a vintage car, has invited the group “Jumpin Rockets” at the beginning of March, who will provide upbeat dance music from 8 p.m.

From June 6th to 9th there will be a multi-day program with many attractions for visitors from all over southern Bavaria.

The organizer is particularly pleased that the “Rockabilly” meeting in Peiting is now established and that many visitors come from far away.

Together with a few colleagues, Schallhammer will also be at the turntables himself and play treasures from his music collection.

Extensive supporting program

As in previous years, the festival begins with a “pre-party” on Thursday, June 6th.

The next day, three bands can be heard for an entire evening: In addition to the trio “High Steppers,” a new formation from Munich, “Jive Patrol,” will play – for the first time at a major festival.

Singer Sunny Bee follows in the footsteps of well-known role models such as Ruth Brown, Lavern Baker and Janis Martin.

Also planned for June 7 is an “Eddie Cochran tribute show”;

The singer and guitarist (“Summertime Blues”) died in a taxi accident while on tour in England in April 1960 when he was in his early 20s.

If you're still fit, you can continue dancing in the Schloßberghalle on Saturday evening, June 8th.

Blues and swing, jive and rockabilly are offered by bands like the “Lucky Lucianos”, “Trigantics” and “The Wyatt Christmas Five”.

“There is a large stage and a spacious parquet dance floor.

At the back exit we continue to the open area and the second dance floor, where the best DJs play all the time,” said the organizer.

Finished off with a morning pint

The supporting program is also impressive: Among other things, you can register for a workshop in which participants learn how to create quick fifties-inspired hairstyles for everyday life, how to twist curls, how to build durability and volume - straightening irons are required.

A jive and “rockabilly” dance course is also planned in the Schloßberghalle, and of course numerous vintage cars should not be missing as a stylish backdrop.

On Sunday, June 9th, the Peitinger Festival is scheduled to end with a morning pint.

In addition to the live music, well-known disc jockeys will play the best boogie and rockabilly records every day.

Detailed information about the process can be found at www.white-n-blue.de.

“'Rockabilly' is one of the varieties of rock'n'roll,” says Schallhammer.

It developed until the mid-1950s, when young, mainly white musicians in the American South reinterpreted black 'rhythm and blues' in their own way and with the instruments they were familiar with and mixed it with country music.

The term “rockabilly” only gradually became established because the association with hillbilly (“country bumpkin”, “hillbilly”) emphasized the provincial, rural quality of this music.
