Great frustration in Jachenau: The residents and the mining master have been demanding the renovation of state road 2072 for years. The response from the state building authority remains unsatisfactory for them.

Jachenau

– The “worst rough slope in the district” will soon be a thing of the past.

When the mayor of Jachenau, Klaus Rauchberger, recently read this announcement from the state building authority in our newspaper, he had to shake his head.

Because what he meant was not the state road 2072 to Jachenau, as he would have wished, but rather the renovation of state road 2368 between Kirchbichl and Dietramszell.

Calls for the renovation of the state road to Jachenau go unheeded

For years, Rauchberger and his predecessor Georg Riesch before him have been vehemently calling for the road to be renewed on the route from Wegscheid to Jachenau.

But despite all the massive complaints, this call continues to go unheeded.

Since he became mayor in 2020, Rauchberger has never missed an opportunity to point out the dilapidated condition of State Road 2072.

Only recently, he reports, he asked Klaus Holetschek, the chairman of the CSU parliamentary group in the state parliament, about it at a meeting.

Rauchberger also took the opportunity to present his concerns during a visit by Construction and Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter in October 2022.

Alone: It hasn't been used much so far.

No renovation is planned this year either

The reporting on the State Building Authority's action plan for 2024 caused new frustration for the head of the town hall. Once again there was no talk of a renovation of State Road 2072 towards Jachenau.

Water collects in the deep cracks in the road surface and freezes when it freezes.

“The street is becoming more and more disintegrated,” complains Rauchberger.

Serious effects were felt again, especially in winter.

“With the poor condition of the roads, proper winter service is not possible,” he says.

“The snow plow can’t even take in all the unevenness.” To compensate for this, more salt is spread.

Puddles would form in the potholes and cracks, which would turn into dangerous areas of ice in the event of frost.

He is also aware of cases in which cars were damaged.

The tire on a vehicle burst due to a pothole on the route and the rim broke.

The state building authority even paid compensation here.

Broken state road is a lifeline for Jachenau

“In many places the road is crumbling because the tar is dissolving.” As a farmer, he has experience: “There are areas where you take off with the trailer on the tractor.” In his opinion, State Road 2072 is an even “worse one Rumpelpiste” as the state road between Kirchbichl and Dietramszell – although of course he grants everyone their road renovation, as the mayor emphasizes.

But he sees the main difference in one point: There are many alternative routes to get to Dietramzsell.

State road 2072, on the other hand, is the only connection into Jachenau and back out again.

The private forest road on the south bank of Walchensee cannot really be classified as a replacement route, not to mention the state road on the north bank of Walchensee, which is closed to public traffic.

In terms of traffic, State Road 2072 is Jachenau's “lifeline” - regardless of whether it is a route to work, a route to school, an emergency route, for supplies, for doctor's visits or for shopping.

“Something has to be done, otherwise we’ll end up driving on just a gravel road.”

No financial resources for renovation

Is there currently a prospect of renovation?

“Unfortunately I have to say no,” explains Martin Herda when asked by our newspaper.

“The financial resources available to us will probably not allow this in the next few years,” said the department head in the Weilheim State Building Authority responsible for the district.

(Our Bad Tölz newsletter regularly informs you about all important stories from your region. Sign up here.)

He says the renovation is even more urgently needed on State Road 2368.

Their repairs, which as reported should be completed this year, cost three million euros alone.

This means that the budget for the district is already “more than exhausted”.

State Building Authority: There are even worse roads

Herda confirms that the road to Jachenau is “not in the best condition”.

“The road would definitely need to be renewed, but that is not realistic at the moment.” From Herda’s point of view, the state highway is definitely safe to drive on at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

“It fulfills its function of connecting the Jachenau.” The road maintenance department is also constantly trying to repair potholes.

In addition, the State Building Authority invested 400,000 euros three years ago in repairing the worst damage.

According to Herda, he was not personally aware of the specific case of compensation for a burst tire mentioned by Rauchberger.

There are still sections of roads in the district that are in even worse condition.

The section of state road 2072 from Tölz via Arzbach to Schlegldorf, for example, is higher on the priority list.

The examples of road renewal on the S2368 or on nine kilometers of the state road 2064 from Tölz to Königsdorf would show “that we are trying to make the best of the resources available”.
