Alarm in Eching: A former farm was destroyed in a major fire in the town center.

The damage is enormous.

Eching

– “This was my home.” Helga Ebenhöh stood stunned on Tuesday morning in front of the ruins that stretched into the blue sky above Eching.

In the early hours of the morning there was a fire on the now uninhabited farm property on Daitenhausener Straße, where the pensioner grew up with her siblings.

Around 100 emergency services extinguished the flames for hours.

The fire broke out on Tuesday morning around 4:45 a.m.

Some residents, awakened by the bright glow, briefly wondered whether the sun was already rising.

The blazing flames and the cracking of wood woke other neighbors from their sleep.

When they realized that a barn was on fire, several residents alerted the fire department.

They arrived with numerous forces.

Despite the quick intervention, the barn burned down completely.

Items parked there - including two cars - were completely destroyed by the major fire.

Heat with fatal consequences: apartment building evacuated

The heat from the flames, some of which were several meters high, also had fatal effects on an adjacent apartment building: although the fire was prevented from spreading, the facade was significantly damaged.

The apartments had to be evacuated and twelve people were temporarily accommodated in the Eching fire station, reports the Upper Bavaria North police headquarters.

Luckily no one was injured.

The material damage, on the other hand, is immense: In addition to the barn, a small shed and a former smaller residential building that was now used as a garden shed were also destroyed.

According to initial information from the police, the amount of property damage is “probably well into six figures”.

Fire investigators are looking for the cause

After the extinguishing work was completed on Tuesday morning, residents were greatly affected.

“I didn’t notice anything about the disaster at night,” said Helga Ebenhöh, who lives right next door.

She looked in disbelief at the place where she spent her childhood and youth and of which now only rubble remains.

What caused the fire was still unclear on Tuesday afternoon: the Erding criminal police have taken over the investigation.

“After the scene of the fire has cooled down, it will be examined by specialists for possible traces,” says the police headquarters.

It should then be possible to accurately quantify the damage.
