The Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission said seven of the candidates for the upcoming elections for the Sardinian regional assembly were "unpresentable", meaning their parties should not have put them forward on the basis of a self-regulatory code of conduct they have signed up to.
The list does not have any legal value and it does not mean the candidates will be taken off the election lists, although it maybe a factor for voters.
Among other things, the code of conduct calls on parties not to present or support candidates that are probed for organized-crime felonies or have been convicted of them, even if the rulings are not definitive.
The seven includes a member of the outgoing regional executive, Agriculture Chief Valeria Satta of the League.
The others are Valerio De Giorgi (Christian Democracy), MariaGrazia Giordo (Sinistra Futura), Sergio Oriti Niosi (ForzaItalia-Berlusconi-EPP), Antonello Peru (Sardinia al Centro20venti,), Giovanni Satta (Alleanza Sardegna-Pli) and SalvatoreSechi (Liberu ).
