It's not big, but it's famous: the carnival parade in Pliening.

Hundreds of people were there on Shrove Tuesday - and many joined the procession themselves.

Pliening – One or two drivers who are unfamiliar with the area may be wondering what is going on in the side street that passes through Pliening.

While traffic flows on Geltinger Straße, there are big celebrations going on in and on the small Lindenstraße right next to it.

Well protected by numerous volunteers from the volunteer fire department.

The small carnival parade started at 2 p.m. on Shrove Tuesday; this year there is only one large float pulled by a tractor.

With critical words on the sides about the traffic light federal government and with good-humored young people dressed as Teletubbies on the trailer.

Leading the way is Theo Sterzer, the 78-year-old has put on his legendary gorilla mask and is handing out sweets.

He and his family have always organized the Plieningen carnival parade, and the Sterzers are at the forefront of the parade.

Always with a richly decorated cycle rickshaw with a music box blasting out party hits.

This year, Bettina Sterzer and her family transformed the rickshaw into a “Super Mario” vehicle.

Pliening: With a stroller and walker

Between this and the only large car there is a tiny fire engine, handcarts and above all: lots of children and families.

At some point there will no longer be any difference between who is a spectator and who is part of the parade.

Because everyone can take part.

And so mothers and fathers with strollers line up, as does an older lady with her walker.

She wears a small princess crown on her head.

Yes, everyone can feel like a princess or prince at the Plieningen parade.

Hundreds of people in costumes came to the parade in the sunshine, which only starts from Lindenstrasse over a small part of Geltinger Strasse and then back, from there further over Raiffeisenstrasse and Am Seelkopf street to the finish.

The first people are already waiting in the courtyard of the volunteer fire department, where there will be a celebration after the parade.

On the way, the parade passes a bar set up by residents on Raiffeisenstrasse.

They wait patiently until the Gaudiwurm reaches them and moves on after a short stop.

The bar, like Theo Sterzer's gorilla mask, the Sterzer rickshaw and also the warm Viennese sausages on hand from the Holzner butcher's shop, is part of the tradition of the Plieningen carnival parade, in which everyone is allowed to take part.

Also the “Beer Activists” with the motto: “Lifting instead of sticking!”
