The Carl-Orff-Gymnasium in Unterschleissheim needs more space and is therefore getting an extension and a sports hall.

The Free State should pay the lion's share.

Unterschleißheim – The first G9 students will enter the 13th grade in autumn 2026, on the home stretch for their Abitur.

Then things get tight in the schools - an additional grade level has to be accommodated.

While in the G8 the high school students leave school after the twelfth grade, the students in the G9 stay a year longer: The Carl-Orff-Gymnasium (COG) in Unterschleißheim will be attended by an additional 242 students from autumn 2026, and there are already rooms for 1,271 students scarce.

The special purpose association for the secondary schools in Ober- and Unterschleißheim is planning an extension building with twelve classrooms in the south to replace two all-weather pitches.

On the first floor, a glass, unheated corridor connects the existing building and the new building.

Gym dug in

In between, a single gymnasium is also planned, which will be buried in the ground and supplied with daylight via light openings along the ceiling.

You can look into the hall as you walk past, but it does not shade the new building.

In addition, the hall is located next to the existing sports halls at this point, which, according to Gregor Fricke, managing director of the school association, has two advantages: no set of new sports equipment has to be purchased and the sports teachers can easily move between the halls.

They want to award contracts to companies in April and build it this year.

Preparations for the return to the G9 have been going on for a long time at the district office: According to the principle of connectivity, the district council sees the financial burden for the necessary expansion of high schools in the Free State.

The state parliament decided to return to the G8 and incurred the costs.

District pays for PV system

The COG expansion including the sports hall will cost 28.3 million euros, as the architect from H2M explained to the association at the most recent meeting.

A round of savings had previously reduced costs by 500,000 euros.

The Free State is paying the lion's share: around 26 million are expected to be taken over.

However, probably only for elements relevant to teaching, as Gregor Fricke emphasized: It remains to be seen whether this includes a desired bouldering wall in the outdoor area, a device for stage technology in the sports hall and outdoor fitness equipment for an “active break”.

The municipalities of Oberschleißheim may have to finance this equipment themselves.

District Administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) made it clear that the district was not involved here.

However, the district will bear 100 percent of the costs of 450,000 euros for the planned PV system.

After deducting the subsidies from funding programs, the costs for the special-purpose association are manageable: if everything goes according to plan, the district will pay 350,000 euros, Unterschleißheim will raise 105,000 euros and Oberschleißheim will pay 39,000 euros.

Three new all-weather pitches will be created in the open spaces.

34 trees will be felled; the city says they are all suffering from drought stress.

119 more suitable trees will be replanted.

The school property should be surrounded by a green strip.
