Dangerous situations often arise between cyclists and pedestrians on the way through the Schwaighof complex.

Cyclists also get in each other’s way.

The city council has therefore addressed the issue again.

Appropriate measures should now be developed.

Tegernsee - The path through the Schwaighofanlage in Tegernsee-Süd repeatedly causes conflicts between pedestrians and cyclists.

In particular, e-bikers who travel at high speed endanger and annoy walkers, older people from the senior center or families with strollers.

Almost accidents and even collisions between cyclists seem to occur again and again.

“Pedestrians have priority,” the signs say, but the path is also open to cyclists.

After regular complaints to the town hall and most recently even a petition to Mayor Johannes Hagn (CSU), the city council has now addressed the problem again.

This was preceded by discussions with the neighboring community of Rottach-Egern, which is also concerned with cycle path planning.

This is about the route at the Seeforum and the bike connection towards Tegernsee and Enterrottach.

Building authority manager Bettina Koch reported on the discussions and the message to Tegernsee not to ban cycling in the Schwaighof complex if possible.

“Then the bridge that was built over the Rottach wouldn’t have been necessary,” said Hagn, who also feared that cyclists would then still drive through.

The Rottach cycling representative also recommended making structural changes to encourage cyclists to drive more slowly.

Leave everything like that?

Ban cycling?

Widen the path?

Or make structural changes?

Hagn had these options discussed at the council table.

Rudolf Gritsch (CSU) welcomed the previous agreement with the neighboring community and was in favor of structural changes, especially in order to defuse critical areas such as the rowing club.

Design the path in such a way that only walking speed is possible and also allow cycling on the path on the federal highway - that was the suggestion of his parliamentary group colleague Andreas Feichtner.

He could even imagine half-barriers.

Path through the Schwaighofanlage: banning cyclists is also not a solution

All council members in turn spoke out against widening the path, which could already be problematic for nature conservation reasons.

And Anton Lengmüller (FWG), for example, did not think a cycling ban made sense.

Florian Kohler ( BürgerListe ) could imagine putting up more signs that would appeal to cyclists' morale and to dismount.

When Thomas Mandl (SPD) asked how dangerous the situation in the Schwaighof complex really was, building yard manager Anian Hölzl, who was present in the meeting room, was able to answer.

Hölzl reported that accidents between cyclists actually happen.

“We have already given first aid to injured people, some of them more seriously,” reported Hölzl.

Mandl was therefore in favor of addressing critical points and defusing them with structural measures.

Mayor Hagn also gave his opinion.

He didn't believe in granting special rights to one group, namely cyclists, and was convinced: "Where there are fewer rules, road users have to use their brains." The Schwaighof complex should not be a course with obstacles, but the problem can definitely be solved here exciting.

In the end, everyone agreed with the proposed resolution, according to which the administration should develop proposals that would lead to a slowdown in bicycle traffic and solve problems in key areas.
