Munich and the rest of Bavaria are celebrating Carnival one last time today.

Munich – Under the motto “Munich foolish” the people of Munich are celebrating the last day of carnival this Tuesday, February 13th.

The celebrations in the old town are accompanied by live music and guard dances.

A highlight of Shrove Tuesday is the appearance of the market women from the fruit, vegetable, cheese and snack stands at the Viktualienmarkt at 11 a.m.

The market women will wear colorful costumes and perform their traditional dance.

The tradition has existed since the beginning of the 19th century.

Colorful carnival activities in the rest of Bavaria too

Carnival Tuesday is being celebrated today in Bamberg under the motto “Carnival in the Galaxy – Planet of Fantasy”.

Skiing in historical ski equipment is also popular today for nostalgic skiing in Sudelfeld near Bayrischzell.

In the last few days, too, the Bavarians celebrated Carnival and watched carnival parades and ceremonial meetings.

At least 125,000 people watched the parades in Würzburg, Nuremberg, Coburg and Bayreuth on Sunday, February 11th.

In Würzburg alone, 60,000 to 70,000 people watched the parade.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday

The colorful carnival hustle and bustle ends after today's Shrove Tuesday.

For many Christians, Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.
