It is the only one of its kind in the district - the fire department museum in Erling.

The chairmen Georg and Walter Feigl wanted more space and more members for the annual meeting, including from other communities in the district.

Erling

– If Georg Feigl invites you to the annual meeting of the historical association, it will undoubtedly take place in the Erling-Andechs Fire Department Museum.

Ultimately, this museum was the reason for the founding of the “Association for the Preservation of Customs and Traditions around the Erling Fire Department” in July 2013. It is worth taking a look at this extensive rarity collection of historical fire department paraphernalia.

“You could think that he has bought the market empty by now,” marveled Gerhard Ledergerber.

Like Walter Feigl, Ledergerber has been there from the beginning.

Walter Feigl is second chairman and the one who is always looking for new antiques.

Feigl admitted that it was a pleasure for him to continue looking for clues despite the overcrowded museum.

“There is still a lot that we could still need.” Ebay has turned out to be a real treasure trove.

“If I see something and I tell the seller that I need the item for our museum, I often get it for free because they like the story.”

New to the collection is a 50 centimeter high firefighter made from casting compound by a French artist.

It is an initial gift from Herrmann Kaufer, chairman of the Starnberg Volunteer Fire Department for many years, who has just joined the historical association.

Feigl's greatest wish is an extension to the museum, which is housed in part of the old building yard on Kientalstrasse.

He would be happy with sufficient storage space “to finally get the scattered rarities together in one place”.

Speaking of the club.

It has around 30 members, explained chairman Georg Feigl.

He was pleased that a historic 7.5-ton truck has now been brought into shape, "and anyone who wants to and has the right driver's license can borrow the old fire engine and drive it."

Walter Feigl's vision is to be able to equip every member with a historical original uniform.

“We have already bought several old black jackets and also the leather helmets.

In June last year, ten of us marched in Söcking.

That was very well received.”

On the agenda for this year is the 150th anniversary celebration of the Erling-Andechs Volunteer Fire Department, in which the museum is also taking part as a department.

“Our fire brigade managed to hire the “Altneihauser Feierwehrkapell’n”,” said Feigl happily.

In order to provide the band with enough food for their cabaret performances, funny and not forgotten outrages from the community are currently being compiled.

Finally, Georg Feigl appealed to the population to become members of the historical association.

“We also welcome women,” he assured.

The museum is open from April to October on the last Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Registration for guided tours is possible on (0 81 52) 18 92.
