RTL is building on its success and bringing “The Passion” to the stage again at Easter – but this time with different actors.
Who will take on the roles of Jesus and Judas in 2024?
Kassel – On March 27th it’s that time again: “Die Passion” from RTL goes into the second round.
This time the spectacular live event will be performed in the documenta city of Kassel and the broadcaster has now published the two most important casts for the Easter story.
“The Passion” from RTL: presenter Ben Blümel is Jesus of Nazareth
Already in 2022, the TV giant RTL hosted the star-studded live event “The Passion” at Easter time.
In the first edition, Jesus of Nazareth was embodied by the first “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” winner Alexander Klaws (40).
“Mountain Doctor” star Mark Keller (58) took on the role of Judas two years ago.

This time, singer and television presenter Ben Blümel (42) takes on the role of God's son.
The Berliner is looking forward to the new challenge: “My expectations for 'The Passion' are actually huge.
It's really great to be able to be a part of it and, above all, to give everything to be able to reinterpret the greatest story in the world through modern pop songs.
Well, I’m really up for it!”
The success behind RTL’s “The Passion”
“The Passion” has long been a hit in the Netherlands: the Easter story has been broadcast as a live TV event in the neighboring country for over 13 years.
RTL tried it for the first time in 2022 - and the Cologne broadcaster was very successful.
3.14 million viewers watched the passion play from Essen on TV.

“The Wild Guys” star Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht as the traitor Judas in “The Passion”
The cast of Judas is also set in stone: the treacherous disciple is played by actor and musician Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht (32).
He is also looking forward to RTL's Passion Play and says that he "always wanted to play a real villain."
“And Judas is one of the most famous villains in history.
On the other hand, his character is much more complex than just 'evil'.
I’m really looking forward to working out all the nuances,” adds the 32-year-old.
The station has thought of a few new things for the second performance.
Fans were able to vote on who should play the historical figure Barabbas on RTL's “The Passion” this time.
