The National Rally supports the abolition of land rights in Mayotte.
He will “obviously” vote for a revision of the Constitution going in this direction, his vice-president, Sébastien Chenu, announced this Tuesday.
The far-right party, however, would have preferred that this concern the whole of France.
“We asked for this first step for Mayotte, to relieve the people of Mahor and we are obviously going to vote for it,” he said on BFMTV and RMC.
The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, announced on Sunday a project to revise the Constitution to remove land rights in Mayotte, believing that this constitutes a factor of attraction for emigrants coming from neighboring Comoros.
An already derogatory system
“If land law is attractive in Mayotte, it is attractive everywhere in the territory,” believes Sébastien Chenu, recalling that his party is proposing to abolish it throughout France.
The vice-president of the RN, however, recognized that “if immigration is exploding, it is because the Comoros are much poorer than Mayotte”.
Since 2018, nationality law has already been exempt in Mayotte.
The possibility of becoming French when you have two foreign parents (at the age of majority or from 13 years old on request) is conditional on one of the parents having, on the day of birth, been present regularly for three month.
