From a toothache… to the loss of an electronic bracelet.
The criminal court of Versailles (Yvelines) sentenced a 28-year-old man to 10 months in prison on Tuesday for escaping under electronic surveillance and driving while drunk.
The facts date back to the night of Sunday, February 11, when a police patrol from Mantes-la-Jolie arrested two men in a vehicle driving at high speed.
That evening, D., wearing an electronic bracelet, was dropped off at the emergency room of the city hospital by a friend, due to a toothache.
“I was there barely five minutes,” confides the father of a 6-month-old girl.

That's when Ali, a friend, comes to pick him up.
He gives the wheel of his vehicle to D., because he has drunk three beers.

At the Mantes-la-Jolie police station, the officers noticed the absence of D's electronic bracelet. He has been wearing it since November 2023, following the accumulation of minor sentences, and was due to have it removed in April 2024...
“They (the police) stopped me harshly, that’s when I lost my bracelet,” explains the bearded man.
They stepped on my feet and ankles and I told them to watch out for my bracelet.

A weapon in the vehicle
In this case, the court also looked into the presence of a category B, 22 caliber weapon in the vehicle.
Which was thrown into a bush by the passenger, who possessed it without authorization.
It belonged to his brother who died in 2019. “I wanted to get rid of this weapon, throw it in the Seine,” pleads the temporary man at the bar.
The court also noted that the driver was wearing a hood on his head at the time of the arrest.

If the driver was placed in detention, his 36-year-old passenger was sentenced to 12 months in prison, including six months suspended for prohibited carrying a weapon and insulting a person holding public authority.
