Italy's last Crown Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy was buried in Turin on Sunday, February 11, 2024.
Numerous royals paid their last respects to him.
Turin – The son of the last Italian king had to be buried in the capital of the Piedmont region in northern Italy.
Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy died in exile in Geneva at the age of 86, the House of Savoy announced on Saturday, February 3rd, on the anniversary of the death of Italy's last crown prince.
The funeral service and burial took place in Turin, which was attended by all sorts of nobility.
The “prevented royal,” as Vittorio Emanuele was jokingly called, died in exile after scandals
Around 200 mourners took part in the funeral service in Turin Cathedral.
In pouring rain, the deeply sad widow Marina Ricolfi Doria (86) and her only son Emanuele Filiberto (51) received the coffin on the steps of the cathedral.
There they welcomed Prince Albert II of Monaco (65), who had arrived without his wife Charlène of Monaco (45), the Luxembourg Grand Duke Henri (68) and the former Spanish Queen Sofia (85).
Numerous members of the European nobility gave their final escort to Italy's last crown prince: Astrid (62) and Lorenz of Belgium (68), Archduke Martin of Habsburg (64), Prince Leka of Albania (41), Carlos (54) and Camilla of Bourbon of both Sicily (52), Grand Duke George of Russia (40), Prince Jean Christophe Bonaparte (37), and Fu'ad of Egypt (72) as representatives of the royal family of Egypt.
Unfortunately, the British royal family was unable to send anyone due to the illness of King Charles (75) and sent a letter of condolence.

Turin is the ancestral seat of the House of Savoy.
The family crypt is located in the Basilica of Superga above Turin, where Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy will also find his final resting place.
Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy was the head of the Italian royal family until 2006.
The son of the last monarch, King Umberto II, was until then considered his father's legitimate successor.
His son Filiberto showed a picture of a boy on Instagram and found touching words for his late father.

Victor Emanuel was born in Naples on February 12, 1937 and was the head of the Savoy dynasty, which ruled the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1946.
His father lost the throne after a short reign from May to June 1946 as a result of a referendum to abolish the monarchy and proclaim a republic.

Victor Emmanuel of Savoy called himself “Prince of Naples” and left Italy at the age of nine.
Most recently, the royal even sued the Italian state to obtain the return of the house's jewels.
Vittoria Emanuele also caused a stir when he accused the former Spanish King Juan Carlos of shooting his little brother.
