  • 100 g butter, soft

  • 100g sugar

  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 2 eggs

  • 200 g wheat flour

  • 50 g cornstarch

  • 3 tsp baking powder

  • 90 ml milk

  • Icing (e.g. with powdered sugar and lemon juice)

  • Chocolateglaze

  • Colorful sugar sprinkles

Preparation is easy thanks to these step-by-step instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180 °C top/bottom heat (160 °C fan oven).

    Line a baking tray with baking paper.

  • For the batter:

    Beat butter, sugar, vanilla sugar and salt until fluffy.

    Gradually add the eggs.

    Mix the flour with starch and baking powder and stir in alternately with the milk.

  • Using two tablespoons or a piping bag, place the dough in twelve circles on the prepared baking paper.

    Make sure there is enough distance as the dough will rise while baking.

  • Bake until light brown, about ten to twelve minutes.

    Allow to cool completely.

  • For decoration:

    If desired, spread half of the smooth underside of the Americans with icing and the other half with melted chocolate icing and decorate with colorful sugar sprinkles.

    Let it dry and eat it!

  • Easy Tasty Tip:

    Americans will keep for up to a week in an airtight container if they are not eaten beforehand.
