Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has not suffered any damage to the heart itself but only mildpericarditis, the defense ministry said Tuesday after he was admitted to hospital under his own steam overnight after suffering chest pains.
"The examinations and monitoring which he immediately underwent at the hospital, the Defense Ministry informs, revealed mildpericarditis and the absence of cardiac damage."Pericarditis is an inflammation of the pericardium, the fibroussac surrounding the heart.
The minister, a senior member of Premier Giorgia Meloni's right-wing Brothers of Italy (FdI) party, entered the San Carlodi Nancy hospital in Rome on foot and immediately had acoronarography.
"In the coming hours, Minister Crosetto, whose health condition is good, will undergo further examinations to ascertain the cause of the illness.
"The minister thanked everyone for the numerous messages of sympathy and friendship received from the institutional and political world, from the majority and the opposition , as well as the affection shown by many ordinary citizens".
