The main accused in the cannabis production and importation trial was sentenced on the night of Friday to Saturday to 10 years in prison.

His hacienda in Andalusia housed a cannabis farm.

A 42-year-old father, who led an entire international team of drug traffickers from a house in Pontoise where he lived, was sentenced on the night of Friday to Saturday to 10 years of criminal imprisonment by the Special Assize Court of Val-d'Oise.

He was judged for having organized production and also having set up a whole team to import Moroccan cannabis resin in an organized group.

After three weeks of trial, he was also fined 50,000 euros.

Habou D appeared free at his trial.

But among the 17 accused, he is the only one to have been imprisoned following the hearing which ended at 1 a.m. after 13 hours of deliberation.

He had previously spent only one year in pre-trial detention in connection with this case.

The attorney general had requested 12 years of criminal imprisonment against him, describing him as “the head of the organization, the project manager, the manager, the conductor”.

“There was nothing organized”, assures the accused

Before the special assize court, Habou D. had tried to describe himself as a thoughtless amateur to escape the description of the attorney general.

“I didn't have a plan, everything was done randomly, day by day.

There was nothing organized.

It was all just a mess,” he said, explaining that he even lost money in this Spanish farm affair.

The other defendants were sentenced to sentences generally consistent with the requirements of the public prosecutor, who had requested 2 to 5 years in prison.

The firm sentences pronounced against them covering for all the pre-trial detention carried out since their arrest.

This is particularly the case of Georgios Z., an 80-year-old Greek then living in Belgium, who appeared as an intermediary when the team wanted to import Moroccan resin.

He was the only one still detained since his arrest in 2018. He was able to regain his freedom.

Having participated in imports, a driver was, for example, sentenced to 18 months and 18 months suspended and avoided incarceration.

The court also confirmed the acquittal required for one of the accused.
