There is a happy surprise at Hellabrunn Zoo: four maned wolf cubs were born and are now exploring the outdoor enclosure.
Munich - The Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich is happy about four newborn maned wolves, a first in 17 years.
The four puppies of the wild dog species from South America were born on Christmas Eve 2023, as the zoo announced on Tuesday, February 13th.
After a few weeks indoors, the little ones have now discovered the outdoor enclosure, where, with a bit of luck, visitors can marvel at them.

For the first time in 17 years: Maned wolf cub at Hellabrunn Zoo
The parents, Delgado and Aweti, have been residents of Hellabrunn since 2021 and now have their first offspring.
As is typical for this species, the father also takes part in the rearing, the zoo explained.
The employees are currently only observing the young family from a distance; even a veterinarian has not yet examined the puppies.
“The two parents are doing really well and are taking excellent care of their offspring,” said animal keeper Kelly Pfaff.
The successful breeding attempt is confirmation “that the animals feel comfortable with us,” said zoo director Rasem Baban.
Maned wolves have been at home in Hellabrunn for decades.
The last offspring was born in 2007.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species as potentially endangered on its Red List.
