The streets were lined with spectators: they were cheering on “WaPo Olching”, a TV series created especially for carnival.

“Olching, Olau!” was the motto on Shrove Tuesday in the heart of Olching.

The parade broke the record again: 35,000 people took part.

And this year there wasn't just sweets for them - but also gingerbread and Santa Claus.

Olching

- Even before the 25 cars started their engines and the foot groups got into position, helpers from the Olching Carnival Committee (FKO) were ready, like Ursula Buckel with her daughter.

For the first time she helped collect donations.

“I’m there to ensure that the carnival continues,” said the woman from Olching.

In return for a donation, she and the approximately 20 other helpers who were positioned on the access roads were given a medal.

Carnival parade visitor Maximilian Lechl bought two to help wherever he can, as he explains.

Because everything is becoming more expensive, including the foolish activities.

The vital oasis can come – at least if the members of the Olching carnival guild have their way.

Then the move began in 2024.

At the front was - as has been the case for over ten years - Heidi Probst from FKO and greeted the clowns, elves, cowboys and co. on the side of the road with the usual triple “Olching, Olau!”

Mayor Andreas Magg, deputy district administrator Martina Drechsler, pastor Josef Steindlmüller and members of the FKO threw sweets down into the crowd.

Olching carnival parade: rescued food for carnival

Rescued chocolate lice and gingerbread: The sweets, which are somewhat unusual for carnival, were provided by the Bruck food rescuers.

A few meters behind the first car there was also sweets for the costumed children and adults - albeit chocolate candy and gingerbread.

The Bruck food rescuers were there with their wagon for the first time.

The ten members distributed – how could it be otherwise – saved sweets, fruit and vegetables, explained club boss Sabine Kemet.

The food rescuers themselves had dressed up to match the theme: And so a two-legged banana, melon, tomato and a two-legged biscuit strolled along Feursstrasse.

Some of the floats from the clubs that took aim at local political issues were not as sweet as the fruits and sweets.

Criticism of the planned vital oasis in Olching has recently become louder again in the city council.

The Olching Carnival Guild (FGO) took this as an opportunity and wore white bathrobes, a hair turban and sunglasses.

They had elaborately transformed their car into a vital oasis complete with a sauna and palm trees.

“We won’t just be sitting on the city council anymore, soon we’ll be able to sweat in the sauna,” was one saying.

Olching: Snow chaos and the clearing service

The Volksbühne Olching took on a somewhat cooler theme: “Olching is sinking in the snow, only at the Christmas market is it crashing,” was the message on the float about the onset of winter at the beginning of December.

“You actually have to wait until shortly before Carnival to choose a theme,” revealed Eric Giersdorfer from the Volksbühne.

Own TV series for Olching

What if the snow melts?

“We protect all puddles,” it said on the Olchinger men’s meeting car.

True to the ARD series WaPo Bodensee and WaPo Berlin, the men created Olching's new TV series.

In sight: Grantler, Dampfchatcherer and Wuisla.

For the latter, they had “Wuisla water” ready, as Bernd Kriegl explained.

The new TV series can be seen on the streaming services MaggentaCrime.de, GigglMaxiPrime.de and JaschkeÖkoline.de - named after the mayor and his deputies.

But not only local political issues were mocked; national discussions were also in focus.

The Specht-Ranch Geiselbullach made a big and clear reference to the “dying of pubs”.

The solution?

A mobile inn for rent.

The federal government was also targeted here and there and, for example, the car belonging to Motorsportfreunde Olching and the Madlverein ended up in the scrapyard.

As every year, wagons and walking groups were awarded prizes at the end.

As Luca Maier from FKO announced, the Olching motorsport club came in first place with its criticism of the construction sites in Olching.

The carnival guild with the Vitaloase took second place, and the Specht-Ranch with its inn took third place.

The Volksbühne won gold in the foot groups.
