The Speaker of the Knesset, Amir Ohana, confirms this evening (Tuesday) that a request was submitted to the legal advisor to the government, Gali Behara-Miara, to investigate MK Gilad Kharib on suspicion of leaking information from a classified discussion of the Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.
The legal advisor said that the letter reached them and it will be handled as usual, and she will give a response in the coming days.
The request was made after Speaker Ohana instructed the Knesset officer to appoint an investigating officer to examine the case. As part of the investigation, witnesses were summoned to testify and provide evidence, and the cameras in the committee's premises were even examined. The examination revealed that the only person who reviewed the protocol from whom the information was leaked, since his arrival at the committee about half a year ago A year until the date of the inspection, he is MK Kariv, who did it twice, and close to the time of publication of the article.
The examination revealed that MK Karib marked with a marker, pen and pencil parts of the protocol that were eventually published. The director of the committee stated unequivocally that this is the only existing copy of that discussion that was given to MK Karib without markings.

In the investigating officer's file, it was determined that "this is a very serious incident in which classified information was leaked to a media person who is not authorized to do so. The media person made the classified information public and this at a very sensitive time when the State of Israel is at war on several fronts."
The file also states: "The officials and security bodies who come to the committee and share valuable security information, it would be appropriate for us to provide them with an appropriate platform to support this. It must be remembered that on the other side sits a foreign intelligence officer who collects every detail of information in order to complete his intelligence puzzle."
In his address to the Legal Advisor to the Government, Chairman Ohana wrote that "Given that various criminal offenses have allegedly been discovered, and not without some controversy, he asks her to immediately order the opening of an investigation for an in-depth investigation of the incident and prosecution, as long as the evidentiary picture does not change during the investigation.
At the end of his letter, he added that "refraining from taking all legal measures will encourage and incentivize more leaks from more meetings, which will not only harm the security of the state, but also the ability of the Knesset to maintain proper supervision of the government and its institutions, which will not, to put it mildly, share secret information in the future."

MK Karib responded: "Any investigation in connection with the leakage of information from the war cabinet, an expanded cabinet, government discussions and Knesset committees is welcome and appropriate.
