Dorfen - 20 years ago, Werner Hartmann launched the “Dorfener Nestgroschen”, with Michael Oberhofer and Marianne Ehrler at his side.

To this day, the association supports citizens from the municipality who have found themselves in need through no fault of their own.

Dorfen – To mark the anniversary, there is a big discount on all clothes and household goods in the associated “Social Clothes Shop” on Johannisplatz.

“Back then, the social network was not as narrow as it is today,” says CSU city councilor Oberhofer, who Hartmann was immediately enthusiastic about the idea of the “emergency fund”.

It was about unbureaucratic help and quick financial support, for example after a fire or in the event of death.

Hartmann has always had a very good “feeling for people,” says Ehrler.

Hartmann was unable to be present at the interview last Friday in the editorial office of the Dorfener Anzeiger; his former colleagues regret that he was unfortunately ill.

From the beginning, the association saw itself as a “group of politically independent, socially committed villagers with the aim of providing unbureaucratic and timely financial help to citizens in need,” according to the statutes.

“Regardless of the person, nationality or religion,” adds Oberhofer.

The only requirement: you have to be registered in Dorfen.

Whether with a loan or a gift – the “emergency fund” has already helped many people in need.

For example, a young woman with small children who no longer knew what to do after the death of her husband.

“In such cases, of course, the money has to flow promptly,” says Ehrler.

Likewise after a house fire or water damage, when families suddenly find themselves on the street.

The club found its first home at the shooting hall square in the former poorhouse, which was demolished last fall.

“The blackboard used to be in there too – we initially had a room,” remembers Ehrler.

Many villagers also donated clothes here, and shops in the city also donated for the “nest egg”, such as the boutiques in Marienhof.

And so, four years after it was founded, in 2008, the “Social Clothes Shop” was established.

Georgine Deierer, as director, looked after this facility with enormous effort.

Children's clothes, satchels and toys were available free of charge.

For all other items one euro was due.

“That was a symbolic price,” adds Oberhofer.

Customers then and now are primarily single mothers and large families, but also refugees and seniors.

In 2019, the social club found a new home on Johannisplatz. Since then, Ursula Cepelec has been at the helm of the store. With her team, she manages the small department store in the heart of the city, which is becoming increasingly popular, and not just because of inflation.

Cepelec knows that second-hand is in vogue: “Many people are opposing the throwaway society and passing on clothes or household goods that they no longer need.” Quality is important: “We value good, well-maintained condition,” she explains .

The net proceeds from the shop support children and youth work in Dorfen, but also help pensioners in need.
