A 20-year-old man was indicted for attempted murder and imprisoned as part of the investigation into a brawl in Coignières (Yvelines) in 2022 during which a 14-year-old teenager was killed, the prosecution said on Tuesday of Versailles, requested by the AFP.
He was taken into custody during the night from Saturday to Sunday, suspected by investigators of having beaten a 16-year-old boy during this clash between two rival gangs, said a police source.
According to this same source, the accused was under judicial supervision at the time of the events, for participation in a group with a view to preparing violence and attempted murder, and did not have the right to go to Yvelines.
Clash between gangs
On November 26, 2022, Djibril, a 14-year-old teenager, was killed in the small town of Coignières during a brawl which broke out at the end of a sports gala.
He had come with his family from the neighboring town of Maurepas to attend an evening of mixed martial arts (MMA) fights in Coignières.
During the brawl, another 16-year-old boy was injured.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the clash between the gang from the Friches de Maurepas district and that of the Marchands de Coignières broke out after the evening, around midnight.
The Versailles prosecutor's office indicated at the time that Djibril had received fatal blows to the head.
The next day, a 16-year-old teenager from Coignières went to the police, then was indicted for murder.
The prosecution then opened a judicial investigation for murder of a minor under 15 years old and attempted murder, and entrusted the investigations to the Versailles judicial police.
Coignières and Maurepas, with a rather peaceful reputation despite some sensitive neighborhoods, are located on the edge of the forest, about fifteen kilometers from Versailles.
