A car crashed into the emergency room of a Texas hospital on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and at least four others injured, authorities said.
They initially reported 10 injuries, but that figure was later adjusted to four.
The car crashed into the emergency room at St. David's North Austin Medical Center shortly after 5:30 p.m. (local time), Travis County Emergency Medical Services said in a Facebook post.
At least one person has died, Austin police Detective Carey Chaudoir told the Austin American-Statesman.
The accident does not appear to have been unintentional, authorities said.
According to Chaudoir
, of the four injured, two are minors,
but he added that they are in stable condition.
The driver of the car struck the north entrance to the facility.
Authorities asked the public to avoid the area and it was reported that patients who were in the emergency room were taken to other areas of the hospital.
Danielle Ketchens, who was visiting her mother on the third floor in the emergency room, said, quoted by the Austin American-Statesman, that the fire alarm went off after the impact.
He said that a nurse who initially thought it was a fire warning "
heard something in a headset she was wearing and ran out
. She said, 'Sorry, I'll be right back.'"
