A package in an ICE train triggers an operation by the federal police.

The content is surprising – and the recipient is quickly found.

Hamburg – The Federal Police were engaged in an unusual operation on Monday, February 12th: an abandoned package caused a stir on an ICE train that was on its way to Hamburg.

The officers rush in with an explosives detection dog.

However, he was able to give the all-clear soon.

The contents of the package were still surprising.

And the actual recipient could then be found.

But right from the start: According to the police, an unknown person had placed the package in the upper luggage rack of the ICE train, which was just waiting to depart from Berlin Central Station.

The package was intended for a recipient in Hamburg.

When the train arrived at Hamburg Central Station on Monday evening, federal police cleared the affected car and set up a barrier.

“A service dog handler and his explosives detection dog were immediately deployed in the relevant passenger car.

During a rough search of the entire area at all seats, the dog showed no display behavior,” says a statement about the case.

The package still had to be examined.

To do this, the officer unceremoniously shouldered his dog.

“Smilla” was able to sniff the package.

But she didn't answer.

A federal police officer took on the task.

He found a brand new string of LED lights, but no dangerous items.

However, the alleged recipient was noted on the back of the package - handwritten and with a telephone number.

The man was notified by telephone and appeared shortly afterwards at the federal police station at Hamburg Central Station.

Although he was waiting for his package, the man was still unable to provide precise information about the sender of the goods.
