Acciaierie Bertoli Safau spa, steelmaking division of the Danieli group of Buttrio, today presented a sustainability plan aimed at "reducing CO2 emissions, increasing the circular economy and the environmental sustainability of the supply chain".

The plan, the company announces, involves an investment of 572 million on environmental, social and governance issues "with objectives that will contribute to reducing CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and which represent the first stage of the path towards carbon neutrality by 2050 ".

In detail, interventions are planned to improve the efficiency of the plants, aimed at reducing consumption, with a total reduction in the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions of -23 kg CO2/ton, and a better performance in particular for the 'Luna' bar rolling line.

Around half of the investments will be made by 2026 with the Digital greenplant, the new line that will allow the production of around 700 thousand tonnes/year of low-emission products, with a new closed and automated digital oven.

The limited environmental impact will also be ensured by the "zero water discharge" design with the total recovery of cooling water and "zero waste" with the recovery of processing waste.

These components will guarantee a reduction in CO2 emissions by 25%, electricity consumption by 15% and methane consumption 80% lower than current ovens.

In the field of green hydrogen, Abs is also participating in the construction of a hydrogen supply chain, as envisaged by the Nahv cross-border cooperation pilot project.
