Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen today (Wednesday) unusually called on Hamas to quickly complete the hostage deal with Israel "to save suffering for the Palestinian people" and avoid an attack on Rafah. He warned that the continuation of the war could lead to "another Nakba", no less severe than in 1948.
Abu Mazen, who heads Fatah, a rival of Hamas, criticized the organization and Israel. He said that "anyone who puts up obstacles from any side to disrupt the deal bears responsibility.
We have reached an intolerable situation."
He also appealed to the American administration and the Arab countries, adding that "serious action must be taken to complete the deal as quickly as possible, in order to spare the Palestinian people the suffering from this devastating war."
Abu Mazen's call to Hamas comes against the background of talks in Cairo between Egypt, Qatar, The United States and Israel to forge a new deal for the release of the abductees held by Hamas and a cease-fire.Among the points of contention between Hamas and Israel is the number of prisoners to be released in exchange for the abductees.
