The second acceptance check will begin along the Weßlingen bypass these days.

Animal rights activist Daniela Brombach has been very close to protecting amphibians since the bypass was put into operation.

And draws a positive conclusion for the first time.

Weßling

– Animal rights activist Daniela Brombach has had a strenuous week.

Since the opening of the Weßlingen bypass, she has been vigilantly accompanying the measures to protect amphibians.

At the start of the second acceptance control these days (we reported), the woman from Wörthsee had her hands full ensuring good conditions all around.

Yesterday she said: “It is really the case that everyone is making an effort and the suggestions are being implemented.”

Emotional appearances in the Weßlingen municipal council, joint campaigns with the Nature Conservation Association, countless sleepless nights during the hikes and a website on which the disasters and positive things are reported: Daniela Brombach is known as a colorful dog as an amphibian protector.

When she found out that the second acceptance check was beginning, she moved out immediately.

She ensured that a farmer removed a deposit of manure in the area crucial for the amphibians, that Deutsche Autobahn GmbH stopped cutting work on the A 96 and that forest farmers and the archdiocese also stopped their felling work and trips with the heavy harvester.

“That was all last week,” she says.

And it cost her nerves.

Because the contact person had to be found and convinced.

“Some said: Thank you for informing us, we didn't know that.” Yesterday, Brombach gave a positive assessment of the current work and improvement measures by the Weilheim State Building Authority along the two-kilometer-long bypass.

“Everyone is very cooperative.”

Brombach expressed high praise for the newly commissioned environmental office based near Freising.

“They are very committed, that's really great.” As reported, the State Building Authority had separated from the office responsible for the initial inspection.

However, it took almost three years until a new environmental office could be found because the task is complicated.

Brombach was also asked some time ago: “But I can’t afford it,” she said at the time.

Brombach has been involved in amphibian protection since 2015 and has cost the authorities and the Weßlingen local council some nerves.

“I won’t let up,” she says.

The Federal Nature Conservation Association also helped with press releases, and once there was even talk of a lawsuit: after a lecture by Brombach in the Weßlingen municipal council in 2018, the municipality called in its in-house lawyer.

The amphibian protection on the bypass alone cost around 800,000 euros.

Brombach is currently active at two other locations: at the rain retention basin near Mischenried on the A 96 and at the newly built supermarket near the Kuckucksheim in Steinebach.

As part of the species protection review, it was possible to ensure that the sewage shafts received exit aids, said Brombach.

According to Brombach, the amphibians have not yet migrated.

Because it got cold again, some people probably turned back.

“But they are awake.

If it’s more than six degrees and raining, it starts.”
