Lured into a trap and attacked in the cellar at midnight, wounded in the throat and left unconscious on the ground.

The person wanted for the attempted murder of Waltraud Kranebitter Auer, a well-known physiotherapist in Bolzano, is the former partner of her daughter, a 35-year-old Nigerian citizen.

Less than 24 hours after the double murder in Cisterna di Latina, where the ferocity of a man struck the mother and sister of his ex-girlfriend who were shot dead, another woman is the victim of violence within the family.

The 62-year-old is now hospitalized in serious conditions at the San Maurizio hospital in Bolzano: she is in a pharmacological coma, sedated, but her life is not in danger.

A neighbor found her with her throat cut and a cerebral effusion in the garages and cellars of the condominium where she lives.

Even if the police investigate 360 degrees, it seems that one of the leads considered most likely is the one that leads to the family environment, or to the ex-son-in-law.

"He certainly knew his attacker, but I can't say anything. The investigators know everything", says a relative reached by telephone by ANSA.

The ex-partner of Waltraud Kranebitter Auer's daughter, a 35-year-old citizen of Nigerian origin residing in Germany, is suspected and therefore wanted.

The victim's daughter had broken off the relationship with her partner, she had moved away from the man and had returned to live with her two children with her parents in Bolzano.

A breakup seems problematic which would have pushed the woman, according to what we learn, to turn to an anti-violence center in Bolzano.

Last night Waltraud was at home with her grandchildren when the light went off, probably a trap to force her to go down to the cellar to reactivate the electricity meters that had been disconnected.

Then the attack and attempted murder.

From 2021 until the first half of 2023, around 900 reports have been collected by the Carabinieri in Alto Adige for code red crimes, i.e. related to gender and family violence.

And in 2023 the trend is increasing.

In 2023 alone, four feminicides occurred in Trentino Alto-Adige.

On February 19, Sigrid Grober, 39, was killed by her partner Alexander Gruber in Merano, South Tyrol.

For this crime the Province of Bolzano will be a civil party.

On 28 July Mara Fait, 63, lost her life at the hands of her neighbour, Ilir Zyba Shehi, in Noriglio.

Another femicide occurred in the province of Trento just a few days later, on 6 August, when Iris Setti, 61, lost her life, killed in Rovereto by Nweke Chukwka, homeless.

Finally, on August 13, Celine Frei Matzohl was killed by her ex-boyfriend, Omer Cim, in Silandro, Alto Adige.

At the beginning of this year, the name of Ester Palmieri was added to the sad list, killed by her ex-partner Igor Moser in Valfloriana in Val di Cembra.

However, if we consider the last seven years, there have been 22 victims of femicide in Trentino Alto-Adige.

Christine Clignon, president of the Gea association, launches an appeal to all women to contact the anti-violence centers in their area.

"Like Gea - explains Clignon - we offer three services: a toll-free number which is active 24 hours a day, an anti-violence listening centre, which all women who feel in danger can turn to and women's homes with a secret address" .
