A former football player has been convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend.
He probably lay in wait for the victim and killed her with a garden bench.
Bologna – “Today is of course a day of great emotions and sadness, but also of legal certainty,” said the mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepor, when the verdict was announced.
Former footballer Giovanni Padovani from Italy, also known as a model, was sentenced to life in prison for murder.

Eventually the woman was beaten to death with a garden bench.
Her sister heard the incident on the phone.
A short time later, the victim died from his serious injuries.

After two hours, the court in Bologna handed down the verdict and recognized the aggravating circumstances, reported the Italian news portal
Rainews.
Padovani, who temporarily played for the Virtus Bozen club, had previously received a report for stalking from his ex-partner.
He was also proven to have base motives and premeditation.

Initially, Padovani tried to plead insanity.
“If I were completely lucid and competent, I deserve a life sentence.
But if you consider that the behavior is something unusual, abnormal, then not,” the former fourth division player was quoted as saying by the news portal.
“I know that in reality I was not well, because a person who is healthy does not kill another person.”
The community took part in the murder trial as a civil party.
Several associations against violence against women were also present.
In addition to the prison sentence, the perpetrator must, among other things, pay compensation of 100,000 euros to his relatives.
