A comparison of 20 German cities shows: Driving licenses are the most expensive in Munich

The analysis for 20 large German cities shows: On average, learner drivers across Germany pay 3,312 euros for their license.

Munich is clearly out of line here and is the frontrunner - in a negative sense.

That's an impressive 55 percent more than Berlin student drivers have to pay (2,718 euros).

This is based on 25 driving lessons, and the amount also includes everything that is necessary on the way to your destination: the basic amount for the driving school, the driving lessons, special trips right up to the test and registration fees.

The official costs for the driver's license application, the first aid course, the eye test and the passport photo were also included.

Analysis: In Berlin the competition among driving schools seems to be greater than in Munich

The reason for the large price differences appears to be primarily due to the quality of the fleet and local competition in pricing, according to the press release.

There are over 350 driving schools competing in Berlin - there is strong competition there, which may keep prices lower.

In Munich, on the other hand, people often learn to drive in higher quality vehicles, which could explain the higher costs.
