After a special election in New York, the Republican majority in the US House of Representatives is dwindling.

Donald Trump reacts angrily to the defeat.

New York - After a special election in a constituency in New York, the Republicans' already narrow majority in the US House of Representatives has shrunk further.

According to a projection by Edison Research,

Democrat Tom Suozzi won

the formerly Republican seat against his Republican competitor Mazi Pilip.

The special election was necessary because the House of Representatives had expelled Republican George Santos.

He had spread numerous lies in his biography and had been charged with fraud.

This means that the Republicans in the House of Representatives now have a majority of 219 votes to 213.

Democrat Suozzi speaks of “dirty tricks” by the Republicans

In his victory speech shortly after the election, Suozzi was happy that he had won “despite all the attacks” and “dirty tricks” during the election campaign.

“The people of Long Island and Queens are fed up with political bickering,” he said.

“You're fed up.

They want us to come together and solve problems.

Now we must take the message of this campaign to the United States Congress and throughout our country.

It's time to move on from the petty partisan bickering and finger-pointing.

It’s time to focus on how we can solve the problems.”

Suozzi is also referring to US aid for Ukraine, which has only now cleared the first hurdle in the Senate.

The draft now goes to the other chamber of parliament, the House of Representatives.

It is completely unclear whether the package will get through there.

The Republicans still have the majority in the House of Representatives, and representatives from the right-wing fringe of the party have long been opposing further US aid to Kiev in the Ukraine war.

Trump in a rage: inferior Pilip “very stupid woman”

Former President Donald Trump insulted the defeated Republican Pilip, calling her a "very stupid woman" in a post on his

Truth Social

platform at around 11:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday (February 13).

In the social media post, the "MAGA" leader lamented the defeat and said the Republican candidate would have won if she had treated "MAGA" (Trump's "Make America Great Again" campaign) with respect.

“Republicans just don’t learn, but maybe she was still a Democrat?

I have an almost 99 percent success rate in the primary and a very good number in the general election.

But I just saw this very stupid woman, Mazi Melesa Pilip, running in a race where she didn't support me and tried to 'stay in the middle'.

Although she would have won easily if she understood anything about modern politics in America,” Trump said in a post on his own platform,

Truth Social

.

And further, in all caps: “MAGA, OR MOST OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, STAYED HOME – AND SHE WILL ALWAYS DO IF SHE IS NOT TREATED WITH THE RESPECT THAT SHE DESERVES.

I KEPT MYSELF OUT OF THE RACE, 'I WANT TO BE LOVED!'

GIVE US A REAL CANDIDATE IN THIS DISTRICT IN NOVEMBER.

SUOZZI, I KNOW HIM WELL, CAN BE BEATED EASILY!”

Trump staff for staggered NATO membership

Meanwhile, in response to Trump's statements on NATO funding, a Trump security adviser has advocated staggered NATO membership based on defense spending.

Keith Kellogg told the

Reuters

news agency on Tuesday (February 13) that anyone who does not invest two percent of their economic output (GDP) in their military as agreed should lose protection under Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

This regulates the alliance case.

Kellogg said he would propose a NATO meeting for June 2025 if Trump wins the election.

He spoke of an “adult conversation” that needed to be had, like many others, on the topic of national security.

The former lieutenant general and former chief of staff of the National Security Council under Trump did not say whether he had discussed his ideas with Trump.

There was initially no statement from Trump's campaign team.

It had described Kellogg as a political adviser who could join the Cabinet after a victory in the 2024 US election in November.
