Europeans 2024: Bompard asks Darmanin for a “national campaign” for registration on the electoral lists

2024-02-14T22:59:19.879Z

Highlights: More than seven million French people were considered by INSEE to be “poorly registered” at the start of 2022. Two other million were simply not registered, according to La France Insoumise. A good number of voters, even though they are old enough to vote, cannot therefore fulfill their civic duty. The LFI deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône deplored that “no national registration campaign has been planned” before the registration deadline, May 3.

In a letter sent this Wednesday, the coordinator of La France Insoumise summons the Minister of the Interior to fight against poor or non-existent electoral registration, which affects millions of French people.

Less than four months before the European elections, all political parties are getting into battle gear.

To campaign, convince... but above all encourage voters to vote.

And therefore to ensure their correct registration on the electoral lists.

While more than seven million French people were considered by INSEE to be

“poorly registered”

at the start of 2022, a few months before the presidential election, two other million were simply not registered, according to La France Insoumise.

A good number of voters, even though they are old enough to vote, cannot therefore fulfill their civic duty.

In a letter sent this Wednesday to the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, in charge of the national elections, the coordinator of La France Insoumise Manuel Bompard

“solemnly asks him to take major action to enable as many of our compatriots as possible to participate in the elections.”

And the LFI deputy for Bouches-du-Rhône deplored that

“no national registration campaign has been planned”

before the registration deadline, May 3.

While La France Insoumise is not taking off in the polls, hovering around 6-7% of voting intentions, Jean-Luc Mélenchon's party probably sees it as a technique to attract possible supporters to the polls.

“Advertising campaign, reminder letters, door-to-door teams”…

According to Manuel Bompard, the State’s means to do this

“are not lacking”

.

Questioning the tenant of Place Beauvau, l'Insoumis insists:

"An election in which a number of voters cannot vote due to their non-registration or their incorrect registration clearly has a census character."
