The parish priests of Arezzo take to the field, in the true sense of the word: the Italian Sports Center of Arezzo, led by Lorenzo Bernardini, has decided to form a five-a-side football team of priests only.

Also thanks to the support of the bishop of Arezzo Cortona and Sansepolcro Andrea Migliavacca.

"The objective is to unite the institution of the church with the sporting world - explained Bernardini -. But the parish priests will not play with other parish priests, our project foresees friendly matches with journalists, city councilors, the Guardia di Finanza team, that of Caritas Then from the summer we want to enroll the team in a championship."

The worlds of society and sport together: the desire is to involve young people: "We would like to create a schedule of events during the year, organize special occasions to raise funds and donate the resources to the RSAs in the area - he added -. Our shirt will be with the colors of the Vatican, therefore white and yellow and will bring back the skyline of the city of Arezzo".

Coach Palazzi, from Arezzo, born in 1955, has had experience with Perugia, Genoa, Siena and Palermo.

"We are honored to have him, we selected him because he had various experiences with us - concluded Bernardini -. And then he played in Serie A, the Champions League".

"I won the speakers' championship, perhaps that's why I was chosen - Palazzi then said -. About 15 footballers were selected, including parish priests and seminarians, Italians, Poles and Africans. I will have to select about ten of them including the bench and then start the work of group perform the team. I will try to bring enthusiasm."

With Perugia, again as assistant coach, Palazzi won a trophy, the Intertoto, in 2003 (which gave the possibility of accessing what was then the UEFA Cup), with Genoa he triumphed in Serie B in the 2004-2005 season.

Now this new opportunity.

The press conference to present the 5-a-side football team of the parish priests is scheduled for March 1st in the diocese of Arezzo.
