The parking spaces at Hörnle and Tannenbankerl are well frequented.

But people often cheated when paying.

This is no longer possible with the new system.

The community is satisfied with the digital system.

Bad Kohlgrub - A car leaves the parking lot at the Hörnlebahn.

The monitor at the exit shows: “Parking fee paid!

Thank you for your visit.” Below the screen shows the license plate number.

The new system from Parkdepot GmbH has been in operation on the area at the valley station and at the Tannenbankerl lift since October 13th.

It has since recorded over 19,000 parking transactions and two pay machines are available.

“It’s going really well,” says Bad Kohlgrub’s town hall manager Christian Hollrieder.

The fully digital system has even passed the endurance test – in frosty temperatures and snow.

“There was an icicle hanging on the screen,” says project manager Niklas Garn with a laugh. With the video-based form of surveillance, the municipality, in cooperation with the project partners Kommondo and Parkdepot, has made an investment in the future.

And took a pioneering role.

Supermarkets and shopping centers have long since discovered the system.

Two parking spaces at ski areas, says Garn at an on-site appointment, “is not standard.” He describes this variant as a “sophisticated solution.”

In the past, the municipality relied on the usual payment machines.

The municipal services association acted as a control body and continues to try to track down parking offenders in the surrounding areas.

But the off-peak times were not covered at the Hörnlebahn and at the Tannenbankerl, says Hollrieder.

Some took advantage of this shamelessly and didn't buy any tickets.

But now everyone is being recorded, emphasizes the town hall manager.

“That’s fairer.” Because now there is 100 percent camera-based control of entrances by digitally recording license plates.

“Which prevents failures and increases efficiency,” says Kommondo.

Barriers are susceptible to maintenance

The startup was founded in 2022 and connects municipalities with their suppliers on a digital purchasing platform.

Customers benefit from an improved payment system at the pay station, which allows them to select the most recently used license plates, thereby significantly reducing errors.

You can easily pay by cash, ApplePay or credit card.

It is also possible to pay the costs online within 24 hours of parking.

“But not that many people use it yet,” says Garn.

As an additional incentive, the fee is credited when purchasing a mountain railway ticket.

Short-term parkers, such as families who attend the forest kindergarten, are granted 30 free minutes.

The convincing advantages: Users only have to pay when they return to the vehicle.

In addition, the new technology has no barriers.

“They wanted them first,” notes Second Mayor Martina Höck.

The catch: They are maintenance-prone and mean “stress,” notes Kommondo managing director Felix M. Schaumberg.

Now it's even possible without staff and without notes.

Another plus point: The system spits out data - not to the users per se, as the relevant protection regulations are complied with.

For example, it records the duration of parking or how many electric cars use the parking spaces.

Hollrieder emphasizes: “It’s all very professional.”
