will visit the Vatican Pavilion at the
Venice Biennale
on April 28 , which will be dedicated to the topic of human rights, the Holy See reported.
The pontiff will go to the pavilion located
"in the Giudecca women's prison
and will meet the ecclesial community of the Patriarchate of Venice," the Vatican added in an official statement.
The event will be the
60th edition of the Venice Biennale
, the most famous art exhibition in the world, which this year will be curated by the
Brazilian Adriano Pedrosa - the first Latin American in history
- and will be titled "Foreigners Everywhere" or "
"Foreigners everywhere
. "
The Church pavilion is dedicated to the theme of "human rights and the figure of the last tenants of
marginalized worlds, where our gaze rarely reaches
," according to the description of the place given by the Vatican Dicastery for Culture and Education.

The Holy See space will have the collaboration of the Department of Penitentiary Administration of the Ministry of Justice, from April 20 to November 24, 2024, and will be held in the Giudecca women's prison with the title
"With my eyes."
Of a total of 331 artists chosen to be part of this global showcase, 114 belong to Latin America and the Caribbean.
Of that group,
16 are Argentine
– between living and deceased, residing in the country or abroad.

Jorge Bergoglio will thus be the fourth Pope to visit the canals of Venice, after
Paul VI in 1972, John Paul II in 1985 and Benedict XVI in 2011

The visit to Venice is at the moment
the third confirmed trip for Francis
within Italy, in addition to a visit to Verona on May 18 and one to Trieste on July 7.
